Introducing Stovaigh's 2nd collection: 'Tai'

We are delighted to introduce a young label to the artisanal world that strikes sophistication and timeless aesthetics when it comes to their concepting and product development. Following the success of their debut series, "Jué," Stovaigh is introducing their second collection - "Tai."

This collection embodies the essence of Qi, serving as a condensed representation of energy and an artistic image in its own right. At the core of this project lies the concept of Xiang, a fundamental notion in Chinese philosophy that symbolizes the expression of natural changes and human affairs by imitating the forms of heaven, earth, and everything in between. Through the lens of Xiang, the Stovaigh project finds application and transformation, breathing life into their collections.

In "Tai," the spotlight falls on natural fibers, with linen, cotton, and wool taking center stage as the protagonists. The collection artfully blends linen and cotton through a reverse weave technique, giving birth to a poetic striped texture that exudes a sense of refinement and elegance. Additionally, Stovaigh continues to showcase their exclusive salt screen printing technique, which bestows a luxurious print feel to the fabrics. The color palette draws inspiration from the classic photographic method of printing on salt paper, a technique with limited availability. To bring these colors to life on fabric, a extraction and conversion process takes place in a Japanese dyeing workshop.

Below, you'll find a result of their salt silk printing method.

Throughout this series, the theme of hiding and revealing prevails, creating a captivating sense of balance. Fabrics, prints, and tailoring intertwine in a subtle dance of "hidden" and "presenting" elements, akin to the opening and closing of a cherished book that tells a compelling story.

One standout piece is the Fall coat, made from heavy linen, skillfully spun on an old 20th-century machine, capturing a nostalgic essence that complements the overall aesthetic. The clever interplay of gold-toned warp yarns, dyed using the salted print technique, elegantly weaves through undyed weft yarns, evoking the spirit of fall. This coat can be worn reversely to show the beautiful hidden details and different fabrics inside.
