SANDRO MARZO - FALL 2022
Into timeless designs with a twist? Sandro Marzo is the brand to know. An eponymous label by an Italian-born designer who’s based in Basel, Sandro Marzo is known for its reinvention of classic menswear, where the designs are determined by the texture of the materials.
For Fall/Winter 2022, the label draws strong inspiration from American artist Frank Stella’s work. Known for his use of geometric patterns in both paintings and sculptures, the artist’s famous line — “what you see is what you see” — was quoted in the collection. On top of the material characteristics which Sandro diligently interpreted, deconstructed and reconstructed, he also explored the geometrisation of the form and the reduction of the colour. “I see, I interpret, I create,” the designer says in the show notes.
Some of the notable pieces from FW22 include the T3-40 shirt that features double sleeves, a below-the-waist hemline and a slim-fit silhouette; the T8-70 padded morph coat with a detachable cropped hoodie that allows you to wear as a vest; and the B4-10 pants that has a cropped length and low crotch. Of course, the brand’s signature Heavy T-shirt also makes a welcoming appearance in the line-up, available in elongated or oversized fit. Every single piece is adorned with the brand’s signature double porcelain button at the back panel.
It’s important to also note that a part of the proceeds from the sales from the FW22 collection will be donated to Verein Ekwal, a non-profit organization that supports educational and environmental projects in Kwale, a town in Kenya.
