HANDWOVEN SAKIORI KIMONO
Sakiori is a slit weaving technique that began in the middle of the Edo Period in Japan between 1603 and 1867. This handweaving technique was used for the creation of this Kimono.

Handwoven by Jan-Jan van Essche himself in his studio in Antwerp. This exceptional art piece is developed out of rectangular Sakiori handwoven panels with hand finished white cotton stitches. The addition of the white stitches gives the Sakiori a three-dimensional appearance.

All pieces are unique and slightly differ in appearance, due to the careful weaving technique and vintage textiles. Sakiori Kimono #7 is considered to be one of Jan-Jan van Essche most unique and time-consuming creations.
