FINTAN MULHOLLAND - FW22 'EPOCH II'

FINTAN MULHOLLAND - FW22 'EPOCH II'

Following the Epoch I collection last season, for Fall/Winter 2022, Fintan Mulholland continues his creative journey for Epoch II. Staying true to his vision in crafting artistic knitwear that is ethical and sustainable, this round, the designer approach his design process with a slightly different lens.

Attributing it to the pause during the pandemic, Mulholland said that the last two years “has created space for reflection and reconsideration and allowed the emergence of more conscious and considered approaches to creativity”. By taking the changing times into consideration, he pushed the limits of knits without forgoing his creative vision.

Comprising of knits, the collection features an array of jumpers, cardigans and accessories in varying materials. From alpaca to wool and angora yarn, each piece puts sustainability at its core, and they are sustainable, traceable and ethically sourced. The looks are all introduced in a relaxed silhouette that beautifully drapes the body. Design-wise, ribs — in a variety of shapes and techniques — elevate some of the muted knits, and elsewhere, geometric patterns add that alluring finish. When it comes to colour palette, a range of neutral hues lay the foundation of the collection, with pops of bright orange and green uplifting the mood.

Some of the noteworthy separates include the Sirius Flare I jumper — a hand intarsia jumper with long ribbed details that almost has a web-like finish. The Sirius pattern, inspired by knit astrological flares and pulses, embodies the complexity and precision of Mulholland’s craft. The Isosceles Cardigan I is as bold as it sounds. A signature of the brand, the geometric shape that’s introduced in mathematical precision adorns the fluid kimono silhouette, complete with a waterfall neckline. Last but not least, the plaited rib Legend scarf and hat set that’s emblazoned with a line pattern, which takes reference from the movement in charcoal.

Bold yet understated, Finland Mulholland’s FW22 collection might just be his best one yet.
