DEEPTI 021-022 ISOLATION
Unlike the previous collections that were launched, DEEPTI's 021-022 ‘Isolation’ collection is conceived as a “fluid body of work” which will expand with the addition of every new piece.
Taking inspiration from the feeling of living in hermitage during the COVID-19 pandemic, the designer developed the collection at her own pace. Spending time with her young daughter and family in New Zealand and teaching fashion design programs as a guest professor at the University of Arts in Berlin in between, Deepti thought about the effects that the pandemic had on the fashion industry, from embracing digital presentations to re-strategising the design process, which all leads to reducing environmental impacts.
Collection designs
Pieces from the ISOLATION collection are essentials that are carefully designed to allow them to “evolve” in any wardrobe over time, and to evoke a sensation of “emotional and spatial confinement”, as well as liberation and opportunity.
An array of classic like Apron, Affix Bag and Eremite Hat are made from full width pieces of Japanese Selvedge denim that has two distinct colour ways on the outside and inside. The integrated brass hardware that is specially developed, produced and galvanised in a custom colour.
In-house craft
Although the collections were previously produced in Italy, the ISOLATION designs are now made locally in their DEEPTI atelier in Berlin. This allows the team of Deepti to be more responsive as well as to be more environmentally conscious. The ISOLATION pieces are now available to purchase in the shop of LUCENTEMENT.
About Deepti Barth
D E E P T I is a namesake label founded by designer Deepti Barth. Born to an Argentinean mother and a German father, Deepti Barth was raised in Germany with some formative childhood years spent in a commune in the USA. She moved to London in 1999 to study at the Camberwell at College of Arts before moving to Middlesex University to study fashion design with an emphasis on mens’ tailoring.
During her time at university, she had the opportunity to work under prominent designers including Vivienne Westwood, Boudicca and Carol Christian Poell, and sold her menswear collections at a store in London’s Savile Row. After completing her bachelor studies, she took up the Master of Arts in menswear design course at Central Saint Martins.
After graduating, she landed a stint as menswear and womenswear designer at Carol Christian Poell in Milan for seven years. During this time, she also pursued her passion for photography, and her work — both images and videos — have been published in magazines such as Visionaire, Domus, Art Magazin, and more.
In 2012, she decided to move to Berlin to work on her own eponymous menswear label, and DEEPTI was launched in Paris in early 2014. The annual collections including ’925’, ‘Broken Formality’, ‘Petrifaction’, and ‘REDUX’ have been presented annually in Paris ever since.
